Lunch With The Governor Of Texas

140907_RickPerryEnjoyed the chance to have a lunch with the Governor of Texas, Mr. Rick Perry.  Was sitting around a table with other people at lunch with him, but I was directly across from him and chatted for about 20 minutes.

Neat to see a politician that is seems to understand business and be a bit less political.

This is the third US state governor I have met.   I got a good talk with Florida’s governor a few months back and was really impressed with his sense of professionalism and know-how from the various companies he has built and run and how he applied that common sense to running government.

I met Mr. Mitt Romney 3 times over a few years but didn’t get to talk with him in such detail as Mr. Scott and Mr. Perry.  Pretty cool to be able to meet these people who are in national and international news.  Excited to see how God uses these chances to meet with leaders.

Only 47 governors left to go, and we’ll have met all 50 states!

The first time God spoke to me, this is what He said

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

We’ve got to learn to hear God’s voice. God is not limited in how He can speak to us. But He is a spirit and we are spirit-beings living in these earthly bodies for this short time.

The first time I heard God’s voice, it was the Holy Spirit reminding me of this scripture as I was nervously retracing my steps to something very important I had lost in a central business district in Tokyo. The Holy Spirit reminded me of this word. Once I decided to not be anxious about anything, I received God’s peace that is unfathomable.  And better yet, the lost item was returned to me the next morning in a miracle that only God could arrange in response to my prayer and turning this issue over to Him.

Do you want God to speak to you?  Let me make two suggestions.

  1. Make time to listen to God.  Have a daily time just between you and him where you praise Him and just listen to what He has to say
  2. Focus your busy life less on being busy and more on listening to what God is saying to you as you meet people, visit places, and plan your next steps.

If you haven’t got a relationship with God, now is the time. There is nothing like knowing God.  Absolutely nothing like knowing the creator of the universe.   Pray this simple prayer out loud and begin the fulness of life that Jesus was talking about.

Father I thank you for your goodness.  I thank you for sending Your Son Jesus to die on the cross on my behalf.  I thank you that on the third day, He rose from the dead to bring life to me.  Right now, I accept the work that Jesus did for me by dying on my behalf and receive eternal life.  I thank you that I will live forever with you and thank you that you will speak to me, guide me, and direct me as I listen to you and fulfill the amazing plans you have for me.  In the powerful Name of Jesus I pray.  Amen.
